The Melon Slice - Folding Bike Review

Melon BicyclesMelon Bicycles is a bike company that started with the goal to produce a folding bike that would ride well enough to be an alternative to conventional comfort, fitness, hybrid, and commuter bicycles. The resulting bike, the slice, has a solid and sturdy formed 7005 aluminum frame that rides incredibly stiff. It reminds one of a bmx bike with its quick starting ability and incredible maneuverability, yet offers a comfortable upright riding position. In many ways, a 20" wheel bike is more suited to urban/commuting/bike fitness trail riding and Melon would like to eventually be known as "The 20" Wheel Bike Company".

Melon has made the slice extremely simple and easy to ride. An eight speed drive train with grip shifting is all that is necessary to get around all terrains. No front or rear shocks have been added to the bike as its 1.75" width tires provide ample cushioning. The component level chosen on the bike (Shimano,SRAM,Truvativ,Promax,Formula) is better than what most people have experienced on their conventional bikes. Melon wanted to produce a performance oriented folding bike without the high price tag. More models are on the way, both folding and solid frame 20" wheel bikes. Melon hopes to make it not only easy, but extremely fun for more and more people to get around on 2 wheels.
