Slingshot Fold-Tech MTB

Continuing our series on Folding Mountain bikes, we look at the lastest offering from Slingshot. The Michigan outfit have been making bikes since 1982 so know a thing or two about making the ultimate riding machine.

The Slingshot Fold-Tech MTB is designed to offer off-road riding while still allowing for it to be folded for travel. At the heart of bike is the SPT (Sling Power Technology) – an energy returning system which utilizes a composite flex board, stainless cable down tube and spring to provide the rider with un-matched performance and comfort.

On the patented Fold-Tech MTB, a quick release “grenade pin” allows the cable to be removed – and prepares the bike for final folding. The frames pivot style collar sits over the seat tube – and upon removal of just one bolt – the collar (and attached front end of the bike) can swivel around itself into the compact folded position.

The front “Boomtube” or top tube; is a new, oversized custom designed 7005 aluminum tube which is engineered to optimize performance while remaining lightweight. The rear end is steel and features rack/fender mounts for the adventurous traveler.

The Slingshot Fold-Tech MTB frame is priced at $799, and come in 14”, 16”, 18”, and 20” sizes. The Fold-Tech currently comes in black as the standard color – but custom paint options will be available by summer 2007. A complete “System” – featuring a travel bag, cable splitters, CD-ROM and tools will also be available this summer.
